Learning objectives: -Students will understand tariffs, what they are, and why they are imposed. -Students will be able to appreciate why Trump is considering tariffs on Ireland. -Students will be able to critically assess how any future tariffs could impact the Irish economy. A 13 slide ppt with additional teacher notes available in ‘presenter view’. Aims to teach students about tariffs, particularly Trump’s tariffs. Includes embedded videos, discussion points, and a motion for a walking debate. Main activity is a Tariff and Trade War Simulation. In this activity, students are divided into importers and exporters with each group needing to critically analyze a situation in which a 50% tariff is imposed on all Irish exports to the US. I use show-me boards for this activity. Suitable for any CSPE or Politics lesson. Can be adapted if school is UK based. I use with Transition Year politics students (aged 15/16).
